The University of Manitoba is constructing a state-of-the-art concert hall on the Fort Garry Campus, the Desautels Concert Hall. The concert hall will support opera and musical theatre for the university as well as a performing arts venue for the greater community. The two-tiered, 400-plus seat venue, equipped with an orchestra pit, features state-of-the art sound and lighting equipment, built-in recording capabilities and a wooden acoustic shell that can be modified to suit performance needs. Other technical features include catwalks over the stage to allow for rigging scenery or adding lighting and draperies and a technical booth at the back of hall. Patrons will enjoy the hall’s spacious, light-filled lobby and a concession area.
