MWC at 2023 National Skills/Compétences Canada

Manitoba Women in Construction was honored to be involved in the 2023 National Skills/Compétences Canada and be featured as part of their NEW! Empowering Women in Trades initiative.

Canada strives to be a leader in skill development within the trades and technologies industry. As a result, Skills/Compétences Canada focuses on engaging youth in interactive experiences that positively profile skilled trades and technology careers.

Between May 25-27, 2023, we had over 12,000 students visit the 2023 Skills Canada National Competition at the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg!

This year, MWC was featured as part of the competitions NEW! Empowering Women in Trades initiative that focuses on creating a meaningful space for students to be introduced to the many options that are available to them in the trades and technologies industry.

This new initiative allows young folks to speak directly with tradeswomen, check out the skills challenges and participate in the fun photobooth contests! Check out the photos below with celebrity guests, Kate Campbell and Jamie McMillan.

Over 475 high school, post secondary and apprentice students compete in 42 skilled trades and technology contests in six industry sectors. Students participate in challenges designed to test skills required in trades and technology careers. The philosophy of the Skills Competition is to reward students for excellence, directly involve industry in evaluating student performance, and keep training programs relevant to employers’ needs.

Winners of the provincial competition may form Team Manitoba and compete against their peers at the Skills Canada National Competition.
